Drink Singapore: Starker – Must-try cloudy aromatic beer in the town

I was not a big fan of beer until I started living in Singapore in 2011. Wine, sake, and Japanese shochu were my regular drinks. But this brewery definitely has added one more, beer, to my alcohol list. Starker Fresh Beer brews German-style fresh beer in the town. I’m actually not quite sure what exactly authentic German-style beer is like, but Starker beer is very fresh with a cloudy appearance. And an amazing gentle aroma. It certainly cools a thirsty throat in Singapore’s tropical humid weather!

These are their signature beers… however, what makes this brewery so special is omotenashi.

In fact, one of the things that will make a beer lover fall in love with this place is their omotenashi. Once you’ve finished a half pint, the staff come with a frozen glass and pour your remaining beer into that, which ensures it stays cool! I have rarely encountered this level of omotenashi even in Japan!

Their signature beers, which have won several awards, include STARKER LAGER (right), which is full-bodied with a distinctive herbal aroma. While it has a notable malty taste from the hops, it’s also rounded and smoother. Another favorite, especially for ladies, is STARKER AROMATIC (left), which has a golden cloudy yellow color. It’s a medium-bodied and as the name indicates, it has a floral and herbal aroma. If you like white beer, this is a must-try.

They also have STARKER DUNKEL, STARKER LYCHEE, STARKER ALE, and STARKER CHARCOAL. All of them have a balanced taste with solid malt and fancy aromas.

One piece of advice if you visit here:)

To be frank, this is not the best place for meals. So I’d recommend dropping by one of the nice Singaporean local restaurants on Balestier Road (Loy Kee Best Chicken Rice, Founder Bak Kut Teh Restaurant) and then heading to Starker Fresh Beer to chill out with a fresh beer.
